This year we reached the Finals for the British Book Awards’ Independent Bookshop of the Year. It is the first time we have ever entered, so we were thrilled and a wee bit surprised to get so far! We won the shortlist for the Central England and Wales region against some pretty hot competition, so we are feeling pleased, humbled and a little embarrassed at having to compete against many of our friends in other wonderful and lively bookshops around the country. We didn’t win the finals, but we had a great time going to the super-glitzy Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London, where we spent a happy evening chatting to other bookshop teams, authors and publishers. We hope to get a chance to be finalists again another year – not least because the pudding at the Award Ceremony was great! And we really enjoyed wearing extremely sparkly dresses.
