The Lost Words Storywalk
September 22 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
You may well have already come across this extraordinary book; a combination of nature poetry and lavish illustration. The story behind The Lost Words is that the Oxford Junior Dictionary removed from its pages a host of nature-related words, such as ‘otter’ and ‘acorn’, ‘conker’, ‘kingfisher’, ‘bluebell’ and ‘adder’, along with many others. Nature writer Robert Macfarlane decided that for the words to be safe in our future landscape, they needed to be put back in to the language for our children. He teamed up with illustrator Jackie Morris and created The Lost Words, a collection of illustrated acrostic poems, each of which acts like a charm to bring the lost word back into its landscape as well as into our language.
